about us

Leichhardt Out of School Hours (LOOSH)

is a parent-run not for profit organisation, established in 1988 on the grounds of Leichhardt Public School, which strives to provide quality out of school hours care to school age children in our community.

LOOSH Philosophy

Leichhardt Out of School Hours (LOOSH) is a non-for-profit incorporated association, managed by its members and led by dedicated, professional staff. Its primary role is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children which enables parents/carers to pursue work, study/training or other activities.

LOOSH is a professional and accredited service that strives to offer quality care in a child focused environment.

Our LOOSH Philosophy Values:

Value the role of play

Value the role of play and believe in learning through play. This is demonstrated through the wide variety of spontaneous and programmed activities that support learning and encourage children to try new skills, ask questions and express their opinions.

Create a positive atmosphere

Strive to create a positive atmosphere where children feel safe and supported. Our staff work to build positive relationships with the children and their families, helping them to feel comfortable and welcome every time that they attend the service.

Value equity

Value equity and promote a fair and inclusive environment where all children, families and staff are treated as equal and valued individuals, and confidentiality is respected.

Value Inclusion

LOOSH is an inclusive service, and we are proud of the way that we tailor our program and routines to meet the needs of all children and to celebrate their strengths, culture, and beliefs. Our team implement child specific plans to ensure that children’s needs are being met and they are supported to meet their individual goals.

Promote agency and autonomy

LOOSH values children having agency and autonomy over their play. Children can exercise choice over where they play, as the children move freely between indoor and outdoor environments. Children also have access to a range of resources to facilitate their own learning and to support them in managing relationships and to self-regulate their emotions. LOOSH relies on children’s ideas and contributions as their input heavily influences the educational program and practices.

Strive for continuous improvement

Reflect on our practice and strive for continuous improvement through professional development and training to ensure we provide the best quality care.

We strive to meet the needs of our community and maintain close links with our stakeholders.
